Daydream Island Holiday - Day 2 - Thursday 6th March, 2025

It was our first full day on the island. We went down to breakfast about 8:30am. Breakfast was a free buffet. Everything was included, so we made the most of it.  Bacon, eggs, toast, hash brown. Once we finished our hot breakfast we went up for fruit. Watermelon, rockmelon, pineapple, grapes etc.

We were a bit cheeky, so when we finished our breakfast, we went and got another clean plate or two and filled them up with bread, cold meat, cheese, fruit and pastry and took them up to our room and put them in the fridge for lunch. The staff saw us walking out with the food, but didn’t say anything. Phew.

I was chatting with Jackie as she didn’t know if she snored or not, so I reassured her that she doesn’t and she turned to me and replied, but you do. We had a good laugh. 🤪

We went back down to the pool again as it was so hot and there is not much to do on the island. We were in the pool another good hour. We could tell how long we were in there, as we got out when our fingers got pruney, and that was about an hour as we worked out.

We met a couple with Maltese background who were from Narrabeen originally and now live in Tweed Heads. What a small world we live in.

As we got out of the pool, we decided it must be cocktail time. I went with Lee and Jackie to go and get then and decided I needed a Tim Tam cocktail. It was just like a chocolate milkshake but a little more potent.  I said it was my shout. We finished our cocktails and as it was getting hot again and our fingers weren’t pruney anymore, we decided it was time to get back in the pool. The water is so nice and warm. After we pruned up again, we decided we can’t just lie around in the pool all day, and we needed to go for a walk to the other side of the island where the water sports were.

Once again, we were told it was only a short distance around the island, but when you are hot and you don’t know where you are going, it seems to take for ever. We finally got around there, and it seemed like a ghost town. There were two pools with no one in them. A canteen that was closed. A shop that was completely empty, a chapel, the outdoor cinema (which we were going to go to tonight, but it only a kid’s movie) and some playground equipment. We couldn’t see where the water sports were at all. We assumed that maybe because it wasn’t school holidays, that maybe there weren’t enough people around, and it was closed. So, we wondered back to the resort.

We were now a little hungry, so we came back to the room for our food that we had taken from breakfast for lunch. We turned on the telly too for an update on how the cyclone was going that was about to hit the south coast of Queensland and the north coast of NSW. We couldn’t work out why people were in or near the water when a cyclone was coming. They all need their head read. They should all be at home getting their houses cyclone ready, not watching it come over from the sea.

Up we got and time to go for another walk around the resort. We came across these huts, that were closed, but we assumed that maybe this is where you could hire the free snorkles from.  Off to the bar, on dry land this time for some more cocktails. Lee’s shout. This time they have a proper Pina Colada. The one we had around the pool the day before, we think might have been a mocktail.

We borrowed a game from the Souvenir shop called “Smart Ass” we think it was a card version of the board game “Taboo”. We played it our way while drinking our cocktails and waiting for dinner time.

Dinner time came around again, and we were back at the same restaurant. Not much variety here, so I had a Cesar salad. Even the salad wasn’t that good. I felt like I needed to go in and give the chefs a lesson in how to make a good Cesar. We then decided we would finish off the night with some ice cream. We were very excited when we found out that they had hokey pokey ice cream. Then we worked out that they got the ice cream mixed up and brought us out English Toffee instead.  Never mind.

Back to our rooms and in our pjs again. We then we found out the big Daydream Island sign that is on the front wharf, that is just down below us, lights up and changes colour, so Ivana, Jackie and I went down to have our photo taken in front of the sign. Yes, we were in our Panama’s and yes, we were all marching. We tried to get a photo of us. We asked someone to take one for us. It was too dark, and the photos didn’t come out that well. Don’t know what these people thought of us, walking around at night with matching pyjamas on. Oh well! We had fun, and we would never see these people again.

Now it was time for bed after a long day of relaxing and exercising.
